Multisector Needs Assessment Karamoja Region — Uganda

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) conducted a multi-sector needs assessment over March and April 2023 to provide an updated understanding of the humanitarian situation in Karamoja, Uganda, particularly in light of climatic shocks and localized conflict and insecurity. The assessment provides information on emerging and increasing needs in the area, highlighting the dire conditions many people face and seeking to respond to organizations better adapt their programming to meet these urgent needs.

Details

The Karamoja sub-region in North-East Uganda is one of the poorest areas of the country,with 66% of the population living below the poverty line, and food poverty levels at 75%. Karamoja has been affected by decades of conflict in the recent past, and insecurity continues to impact on lives and livelihoods. The population predominantly relies on livestock and crop production as a source of livelihoods, in addition to mining, stone quarrying, and the sale of natural resources products.
