Details

Sierra Leone is still recovering from a civil war that ended in 2002. In recent years, foreign direct investment in agricultural land has accelerated tremendously, both in terms of number and scale of the investments. In order to better understand the evolving situations and to develop strategies to adequately support local communities, Welthungerhilfe decided to commission two case studies.

The objectives of the present study are the following: (1) analysing the context and the procedures of land leases, (2) analysing the early impacts of the investments on people’s livelihood and their food security situation in particular and (3) elaborating on implications for the involved actors, in particular Welthungerhilfe.
