FAQ #ZeroHungerRun Challenge

In our FAQ section, you'll find quick and simple answers to the most common questions about the #ZeroHungerRun Challenge.

What is Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and what happens to my donation?

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of Germany's largest private aid organizations. It provides aid from a single source: From rapid disaster relief and reconstruction to long-term development cooperation projects with local partner organizations based on the principle of helping people to help themselves. Since its foundation in 1962, WHH has supported more than 12,000 foreign projects in around 72 countries––for a world without hunger and poverty. We use your donation where it is needed the most. Every contribution helps us get closer to our #ZeroHunger goal.

What does it cost to take part in the #ZeroHungerRun May challenge?

We do not charge a participation fee in the virtual run––but we’d love for you to donate to help us with our projects.

Will I receive a donation receipt?

You will receive a donation receipt for your voluntary donation at the beginning of the following year. In the case of a collective registration, only the registrant will receive a donation receipt. If you collect donations from your team and transfer the full amount, all individuals can also receive a donation receipt.  Please contact team_zerohungerrun(at)welthungerhilfe.de to arrange this.

Where can I find the terms and conditions?

You can find the conditions of participation for WHH events here.

How do I register for the #ZeroHungerRun May Challenge?

As with any other run, you enter your details here on the page so that you can be part of the ranks. In the confirmation email, you will receive a link with an access code, which you can use later to enter and upload your running data.

Which route should I choose?

You can run, walk or cycle wherever you want! Unfortunately, laps of a stadium are not suitable for GPS watches due to the risk of incorrect measurements. Please choose an area with good GPS / cell phone reception.

How long should I run, walk or cycle?

The challenge is to gain as many meters as possible over a 30-or-60-minute time slot. You can upload your athletic performance once a day.

How is it evaluated?

You enter the the amount of meters manually yourself. You will receive a personal entry code in your confirmation email. You can upload your tracked performance once a day as a photo file in the same form or send it by email to [email protected]. There is a final ranking by total meters for individual runners, walkers and cyclists as well as a team ranking (three or more people with the same team name). An age group ranking according to DLO will also be generated for all participants based on total meters.

Are there age groups?

Yes, for all participants, regardless of whether they are registered for the individual or team challenge. Based on the total meters, an age group ranking will be generated according to the DLO, ranging from youth U16 to m/f seniors age group 95.

How can I start in a team?

You can form a team of three or more people. Make sure that you spell your company or team name consistently!

How many people can I register?

You can register as many people as you want under collective registration. We will gladly assist you with registration for larger teams of 10 or more participants. Please contact team_zerohungerrun(at)welthungerhilfe.de or call 0228/228855.

How are teams evaluated?

The uploaded meters are added per participant and per team. The sum of meters gives the team result. The ranking results from the sum of the meters and Ø meters per participant (total meters divided by the number of athletes). This method means that smaller teams also have a chance in each category.

Is it possible for people with disabilities to participate?

Anyone can take part in the virtual #ZeroHungerRun. We encourage people with disabilities to be involved. You will receive an email link with your registration confirmation. You can opt to use the additional field “Disability” to enter your performance and receive a certificate. However, this is not mandatory. If you want your performance to be included in the overall results list, enter your meters in the general field. There is an extra field for wheelchair users/handbikers for people who have achieved their performance with wheelchairs, handbikes, scooters and other means of transportation with wheels. These groups will be evaluated separately.

Which apps are supported?

You run with a GPS watch or measure your distance via cell phone with the sports app of your choice (e.g., Start 2 Run, Endemondo, Nike+, Strava, Garmin, Pacer, Fitbit, Runkeeper, Energy Lab Connect, runtastic etc.).

What if I don't have an app or GPS watch?

As you enter the data manually, it is possible in exceptional cases to do this without uploaded app files. Of course, we ask you to be fair in this case.

Are there any prizes?

We will send small prizes by post to those participants with the most meters gained.

Can the distance also be covered on the treadmill?

Yes, participation on the treadmill is also possible.

Can I take part in both distances?

Sure, why not? Simply register for both disciplines. You have more than 3 days.

When is it possible to take part in the virtual run?

From Thursday, May 22, 6 p.m. (virtual starting signal) to Sunday, May 25 / 11:59 p.m., the data can be uploaded.

Where can I find promotional materials?

Thank you for wanting to promote the run! Here you can find our PDF flyer, which you can forward in an email, or simply use the link to our page.

Will I receive a start number?

You will receive your personalized start number in an email a few days before the event to print out. If you take a photo of yourself, it would be great if you wore your start number and showed your message board (this will come in the last info mail)!

Where can I find the list of starters?

You can find the list of participants directly under the FAQs.

Where and when will the award ceremony take place?

We're not able to honor the best performers in person. We will publish the names of the winners on the Afterrun website.

What should I do with my running photo?

Become a #ZHR ambassador and upload your selfies and pictures under #zerohungerrun and @Welthungerhilfe on Instagram. You will receive your start number and message board to download via email. You can wear your shirts from the previous #ZeroHungerRuns for the photo! Your photo will be added to our “Wall of Fame” on the #ZHR website. If there are problems uploading your photo, it will appear the following day at the latest. The account profile must be set to public for the photo to appear on the Wall of Fame.
