Syria / Turkey
Up to the civil war, Syria boasts an illustrious history. It was a middle-income country with a growing and wealthy middle class. Numerous world heritage sites attested to a magnificent past. This changed with the 2011 outbreak of the civil war, which has already claimed 400,000 lives. Approximately five million Syrians have fled abroad, and 6.5 million are refugees within their own country. Welthungerhilfe is coordinating its activities in Syria through its office in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Global Hunger Index (GHI) of Welthungerhilfe and partner calculates the nutritional situation of a country once a year. The lower the GHI value, the better the rank and the better the situation.More about Global Hunger Index
