Welthungerhilfe in Iraq
Welthungerhilfe Iraq has reached an estimated number of over two hundred and eighty thousand vulnerable and conflict-affected individuals with humanitarian assistance, early recovery, agriculture and environment, resilience and development projects.
WHH in Iraq initially provided humanitarian assistance to people who were most affected by ISIL. Since 2014 Welthungerhilfe (WHH) has been supporting displaced people, returnees and host communities in Ninewa and Salah Al-Din, and other governorates in Iraq. Through rehabilitating infrastructures through Cash for Work (CfW) activities and by strengthening agricultural and rural development in the region with a special focus on climate smart agriculture and clean energy, WHH assists vulnerable people and families in earning a sustainable income.
As the humanitarian context in Iraq changed since 2017, WHH has developed a more comprehensive approach strengthening sustainable livelihoods through a multisectoral approach:
- Civil Society Empowerment
- Humanitarian Assistance
- Economic Development
- Agriculture and Environment
- Climate Change Mitigation & Adaptation
