Less funding – more hunger and hardship
Berlin, 1. September 2025: The 2026 draft budget contradicts the coalition agreement. That agreement commits to combating poverty, hunger, and inequality, and to strengthening humanitarian aid. Instead, those corresponding funds are being cut. Yet, Minister Alabali-Radovan has reaffirmed the pledge to allocate 0.7% of gross national income to development cooperation. The reference to this target even appears in the government draft of the 2026 Federal Budget. But with the planned cuts, this target cannot be achieved. While Germany remains an important donor, its cuts further reinforce the damaging trend of declining funds for development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
