In a crisis situation, regular community practices, care for children and healthcare are disturbed. Even within healthy populations, being faced with nutrition insecurity during an emergency could result in acute malnutrition and threaten lives. If acute malnutrition prevalence exceeds certain established thresholds, the situation is considered as a nutrition emergency.
