Factsheet Global Hunger Index 2022
The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is an instrument for the multidimensional measurement of hunger and malnutrition. Four indicators underlie the WHI calculation, which together paint a comprehensive picture of the global hunger situation.
Dramatic global hunger situation
Multiple current crises show how vulnerable our food systems are. The war in Ukraine and its impact – rising energy and food prices – expose a pre-existing structural inequality and fragile food situation. The global community will not be able to fully eliminate world hunger by 2030 if we continue as we are. Without a fundamental change in direction, an estimated 46 countries will not be able to achieve low levels of hunger by 2030.
