Anticipatory Action Plan for Riverine Floods – Numan, Adamawa, Nigeria

This plan shows how anticipatory action helps communities in Numan, Nigeria prepare for and mitigate riverine flooding.

Details

This Anticipatory Action Plan (AAP) for riverine floods in Numan Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Nigeria presents a proactive, forecast-based approach to managing flood risks. Developed under the WAHAFA initiative by CRUDAN, Oxfam, and partners, the plan combines risk analysis, clearly defined trigger thresholds, and locally prioritised anticipatory actions.

Early measures include flood awareness and preparedness activities, drainage desilting, water treatment support, and multipurpose cash assistance for vulnerable households. By activating these actions ahead of peak flooding, the AAP aims to reduce food insecurity, prevent disease outbreaks, protect livelihoods, and strengthen community resilience in a highly flood-prone area.
