Bonn/Berlin, 15 October 2025: The organization is calling for all humanitarian organizations to be granted immediate and unhindered access to Gaza. So far, only a few aid organizations — apart from the United Nations — have been permitted to bring urgently needed goods across the border. However, the warehouses are full, and there is scope for significantly more aid deliveries to be brought into the country immediately. Welthungerhilfe alone has aid supplies worth over US$1.6 million ready for delivery in Jordan.

“The situation in Gaza is dire. Nearly two million people depend on outside aid for survival. There is a shortage of everything: food, clean drinking water, hygiene products, medicine and emergency shelter. 640,000 people are at immediate risk of starvation. The ceasefire is a positive and important step. The population now needs rapid and reliable support. All border crossings must be opened immediately, and aid organizations must be given unhindered access. Currently, far too little aid is reaching families in need, particularly in Gaza City and the north. However, like many other organizations, we are not receiving permits to import aid supplies, which is costing us precious time in our efforts to save people from starvation. We could expand our aid operations immediately,” says Mathias Mogge, Secretary General of Welthungerhilfe.

Together with local partner organizations, Welthungerhilfe runs nutrition centers for women and children where they receive specialized food and drinking water is provided by tanker truck. These vital programs will continue and be expanded to areas to which people are now returning. Welthungerhilfe is also laying the groundwork to support a possible reconstruction effort, provided the ceasefire holds and humanitarian aid workers can operate safely in Gaza.

In their work, Welthungerhilfe and its partners adhere strictly to the humanitarian principles of neutrality, humanity, impartiality and independence.

Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany; it is politically independent and non-denominational. With courage and determination, it is striving for a world without hunger. Since it was founded on December 14, 1962, 12,777 overseas projects in about 72 countries and territories have been supported with 5.42 billion euros. Welthungerhilfe follows the principle of empowering people to help themselves to sustainably improve their living conditions, through approaches ranging from fast disaster relief to reconstruction and long-term development cooperation projects with national and international partner organizations.
