Launch of the 2026 Global Hunger Index
Hybrid event ahead of World Food Day hosted in collaboration with the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV), and Robert Bosch Stiftung
On October 14, 2026, Welthungerhilfe will present the latest Global Hunger Index (GHI) ahead of World Food Day. It is jointly published by Welthungerhilfe (WHH), the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) and Helvetas.
The Global Hunger Index measures and tracks the hunger situation at global, regional and national levels over the long term. It serves as an important tool for identifying improvements or deteriorations in the nutritional status of children and adults in individual countries and regions.
The presentation of the 2026 Global Hunger Index will take place during a press conference at 10:00 a.m. CET. It will be streamed on Youtube.
No Security Without Food Security
Later in the afternoon, Welthungerhilfe, IFHV, and the Robert Bosch Stiftung invite you to join leading voices from government, academia, and civil society to discuss the report’s findings, their implications for policy and the question:
How must national, regional, and international security strategies evolve to safeguard food and nutrition security as foundations for lasting peace and stability?
As security debates focus increasingly on military threats and defense spending, another fundamental dimension risks being overlooked: food security. Conflict, climate change, economic shocks, and geopolitical tensions are putting food systems worldwide under growing pressure. Persistent food insecurity, in turn, deepens vulnerability, erodes resilience, and contributes to instability.
Drawing on perspectives from across regions, this year's Global Hunger Index explores what "No Security without Food Security" means in different contexts around the world.
