Strategic Transformation – In a Changing World
How values, culture and efficiency go hand in hand.
We are living in times of profound transformation: climate crises, geopolitical shifts, technological developments and growing social inequalities are reshaping our world. The role of organizations in the international aid and development sector is also evolving: the traditional idea of “you donate, we help” is no longer sufficient.
Today, connectivity, cooperation, data and innovation are crucial to remain effective in complex systems and to achieve our goal of Zero Hunger on a Healthy Planet.
Against this backdrop, we have begun to work differently - more holistically, more interconnected and more data-informed. Our internal transformation is a strategic response to global dynamics. It strengthens us from within and creates the foundation for increasing our impact externally.
Connectivity and Collaboration – Thinking Internally and Externally

Change only succeeds together. That is why we see connectivity as a core element of our development – both within the organization and in collaboration with partners worldwide.
- Internally, we are evolving the way we work: we are creating shared platforms that make information more accessible and support data-based decision-making. Processes are being simplified, structures clarified, and collaboration across regions and teams strengthened. At the same time, we are fostering a culture in which learning, innovation and feedback are a natural part of everyday work.
- Externally, we actively seek cooperation with research institutions, technology partners, civil society and other NGOs. We think with others rather than alone; we share experiences, openly discuss failures, and further develop solutions together. We see cooperation as a strategic necessity - and as an opportunity to learn from one another and continuously improve.
This new way of working is based on a simple insight: change on the outside begins within the organization.
Responsibility, Values, and Goal Orientation
Our transformation is not an end in itself. It aims to increase our efficiency, use resources more strategically, and enhance the impact of our work - for the people with whom and for whom we work.
Our values – respect, transparency, accountability, curiosity, courage and commitment – form the foundation of this transformation. They guide us when we make decisions, shape partnerships and explore new approaches.
How We Move Forward Step by Step
Transformation is not a project with a beginning and an end, but a continuous process of development. We improve existing systems, test new approaches, learn and adapt. Every step forward counts – and every lesson learned moves us ahead.
In this way, we shape change not only internally, but in exchange with our partners worldwide – openly, collaboratively and responsibly. And we do all this with a clear goal: a world without hunger and poverty.

Our Approach to Artificial Intelligence
We see new technologies as an opportunity to achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively. At the same time, the use of generative AI tools carries risks of errors, biases and misuse that could harm individuals and Welthungerhilfe as a whole.
Our guideline “AI at Welthungerhilfe: Value-Based Guidance for Generative AI” is intended to provide direction on how we can use these tools responsibly and minimize the associated risks.
