In northern India, villagers became architects of change: They participated in the planning for the construction of water pipelines – and gave their communities a boost to advance the Right to Food.

Two and a half years ago, Lakhsmi and Aman watched their village suffer. Due to the drought, the local fields barely yielded a harvest and their parents had to go to the city in search of making a precarious living.

We can do things differently

The situation started to change in Bundelkhand two and a half years ago. Samarthan came to the villages and invited residents to meetings. They helped to form and train village water and sanitation committees. The aim: to closely monitor the local authorities’ planning for the construction of water pipes.
